About Us

Some websites write about plants. We write about one plant — and we do it obsessively. Money-Tree Guide is an independent reference site devoted entirely to the Pachira aquatica, better known as the Money Tree: the braided-trunked, five-leaved houseplant that has found its way into offices, bedrooms, and living rooms on nearly every continent.

We started this guide with a simple observation: most Money Tree advice online is either too vague to act on or too aggressive to be true. Water it weekly. Water it rarely. Keep it in bright light. Keep it out of the sun. Nobody tells you how to decide. This site exists to close that gap — one verifiable, practical article at a time.

Our Mission #

Our mission is to make Money Tree care genuinely beginner-proof. We want a first-time owner to be able to diagnose a yellow leaf, choose the right soil, and understand exactly why a plant behaves the way it does — without feeling overwhelmed by conflicting advice. Every article answers one question at a time, with clear signs to look for and simple actions to take.

What We Cover #

The guide is organized into six sections that follow the natural lifecycle of the plant:

  • Introduction — the botanical background, common names, and Feng Shui meaning behind the Money Tree.
  • Care & Upkeep — watering, light, temperature, soil, and repotting essentials.
  • Nutrition & Environment — fertilizer schedules and humidity management.
  • Troubleshooting — yellow leaves, soft stems, pests, and root rot.
  • Buying — where to shop and how to pick a healthy plant.
  • Propagation — growing new Money Trees from cuttings.

Our Editorial Standards #

Every claim on this site passes through three gates before publication. First, it must trace back to a named source — a botanical reference, a university extension publication, or documented nursery practice. Second, it must survive a reality check against how the plant actually behaves in homes, not just in greenhouses. Third, an editor who has personally grown the species signs off on it. When sources disagree, we say so plainly instead of picking a side silently.

This is why our watering advice is built around checking soil moisture rather than counting days, and why our troubleshooting guides lead with observation before action.

Who Writes This Guide #

Our contributors are plant scientists, horticulturists, garden editors, and people who have killed — and then successfully revived — their fair share of houseplants. Authorship is attached to every article so readers can judge the expertise behind the advice, from tropical botanists who have studied Pachira aquatica in its flooded native habitat to Feng Shui consultants who explain the symbolism of the five leaflets.

Why the Money Tree Matters #

A Money Tree is rarely just a plant. It is a housewarming gift, a desk companion, a small declaration of optimism. In Feng Shui tradition, its five leaflets are said to represent the five elements, and its braided trunk is believed to capture good fortune before it can escape. We take that symbolism seriously — not as superstition, but as a reminder that the things we grow indoors shape how we feel about the spaces we live in.
